The future looks bright for the Lafrowda Club
May is the end of the Club’s financial year and we’re pleased to say 2025-26 has been very positive. Income from renting space and putting on events has covered our running costs, so when the accounts are finalised the bottom line should be in black.
It’s also a big thank you to the Architectural Heritage Fund for awarding us a development grant of just under £19,000. This will cover professional fees to complete our plans for the building, and the legal transfer to a CIO.
That application is now being worked through by the lawyers for submission to the Charity Commission. These processes take time, but should be completed by the end of the year.
While the trustees have been working away on the paperwork, the club itself has continued to be a place to be entertained and socialise.
In a cold January we welcomed local talent Sad Ballads and Crazy Salads with the wonderful Elaine Claxton and Rick William, and more recently a mixed bill of Bristol-based Emily Magpie and local singer songwriter Jack Mason. We also have successfully opened our doors to outside promoters.
We’ve lots of plans over the summer including the return of ‘Unfringed’ on Lafrowda Day and a supporting event at the start of the festival week.
In October we’ll be a host for the Penzance Comedy Festival with Robin Ince and Jo Neary – so keep an eye out for those dates.
As ever, we couldn’t do any of this without the support of the people of St Just, especially our amazing volunteers. You are our real stars.
